The Reggio-Inspired Approach began in Reggio-Emilia, Italy in The 18-1900's. It was not created based on race but it was created on a need to raise up a new generation of children that would not be blind to the systems of the world. It was truly a prophetic sign that Loris Malaguzzi seen. They had just ended World War II and he saw that there was a need to prepare children to lead society and to not be led into society without having their own mind. It is almost as if he was rescuing children from the thought of being trained and brainwashed by curriculum that was created for children to build on traditonally.
This approach is so great because it focuses on the fact that children are both competent and capable of leading their learning experiences. It causes adults to shift into deeper thinking and requires us to research and make connections to the material and behaviors that children are building and displaying.
Here is what I want black people to know about Reggio,
it is for US!
It helps us focus deeply on our children and make connections on their who, what, when, where and how.
It helps us collaborate with our children instead of overpowering them and instead of micromanaging them into being what we want them to be.
It helps you allow your child to identify the strong parts of who they are while building up their weaknesses.
It helps you to see your child the way that they see themselves.
The reason I want us to get on board is becuase the accessibility is LOW for US! There are schools that practice this but they are not US. WE HAVE TO DO THIS FOR US! Low accessibility is usually for things of value, keep that in mind on this journey!
